Piltown 0-08

Carrickshock 2-09

by Jason O’Brien, Piltown PRO

Different age group , same clubs , different venue , same scorers , same result as Carrickshock headed back over the hill to Hugginstown with the victory to continue their good win run against Piltown.

This game was , once again , a Grace Farrell vs Amy O’Shea shootout , and it was O’Shea that scored first as she pointed from play in the 8th minute. She then raised a green flag in the 11th minute when she broke through and put a low shot past Kate Farrell in the Piltown goal.

Piltown were awakened by that and started playing, Grace had her chance from the 21yd line after Referee Flynn spotted a foul on Faye Maher as she glided towards goal. Grace stood over the sliotar went the same side, but higher this time, but unfortunately too high as her penalty bulleted over the bar, and we were off and running in the 18th minute.

The game was opened up now as the Piltown half back line were battling hard to keep the dangerous trio of Katie and Amy O’Shea and Millie Gilsenan out.

Grace got one from play and a free to finish the half to leave us trailing 0-03 to 1-02 at half time.

The second half continued as the first half had started, with a slow start from the home side as the visitors got the first score off the stick of Katie O’Shea. We were unlucky in the 40th minute as a free from Grace struck the left upright and bounced away to safety , but a minute later she made no mistake from another free, and 2 minutes later a point from play to cut the lead to two points again.

Amy O’Shea then scored two quick fire points of her own before she struck a killer blow ,again, against Piltown. She stole in and tapped home a loose ball inside the 14 for a goal in the 47th minute. Eimear Cummins was unlucky when the ball she pulled on struck the butt of the same left post and went wide.

Amy O’Shea scored 3 more points , with one from Katie to finish the away sides scoring, with Grace scoring two and Ruby Norris getting the last score of the game for Piltown.

A brave battle, with some great displays on both sides.
