Conahy Shamrocks 2-10

St Anne’s/Emeralds 1-7

Conahy made amends for last years final defeat to Clara when they got their hands on the Intermediate county title after beating St Anne’s/Emeralds at Palmerstown on Sunday

Straight from the throw in, Conahy showed they meant to make amends for last year’s defeat.  Danielle Morrissey collected the sliotar and raced towards her opposing goal only to be fouled 30 metres out. Morrissey duly pointed the resulting free

They surged ahead as early as the 5th minute, Amy Brennan leaving Emeralds heads spinning when she raced onto a ball in the corner, rounded her marker and made an angle for herself to shoot a fine goal to put the Shamrocks 4 points clear. A minute later county senior panellist Danielle Morrisey added a further point

Emma Mulhall got on the scoresheet when she picked up a poor clearance from the St Anne’s/Emeralds defence to fire over a point. That score left the amber ladies 1-3 ahead after 10 minutes

Leading up to the waterbreak neither side managed a score as play moved from end to end. After the break again it was Conahy who were first to score as Emma Mulhall added a point from play

Danielle Morrissey increased the lead to eight points when she tacked on a point and added another from a free shortly after

The side from the far north came to life with five minutes remaining in 1st half when Mikaela Ryan had their first score a pointed free which was quickly followed with a point from play from Senior County Star Davina Tobin

Moving towards the half time whistle Conahy were awarded a 30 metre which was duly converted by Danielle Morrissey to leave the score at the half way mark 1-7 to 0-2 in favour of the amber girls

When play resumed, Davina Tobin put St Anne’s/Emeralds a point closer when she shot over. Five minutes lapsed when a shot was blocked down in the St Anne’s/Emeralds goalmouth and following a melee, the ball was knocked out for a 45. Disaster struck for St Anne’s/Emeralds when they lost Siobhan Corcoran to a nasty knee injury. The resulting 45 was converted by Danielle Morrissey

There was quick reply however when Mikaela Ryan fired over the bar after 40 minutes from a free. Towards the end of the 3rd quarter Emma Mulhall added a further point for Conahy to leave the score reading 1-9 to 0-4 at the water break.

Renewed Vigour

Following the water break the girls from the far north of the county tore into the game with renewed vigour and tacked on a goal and two points, the goal being scored by Catriona Brennan and the points via Davina Tobin and Mikaela Ryan

In the closing 7 minutes, Danielle Morrissey and Mikaela Ryan exchanged pointed frees and with a minute left on the clock Amy Brennan scored her second goal for Conahy Shamrocks to seal their title success

Conahy will be back in action in the Leinster Club Intermediate Championship in January 2021

Note: At the time of going to press there was no update on the injury sustained by the St Anne’s/Emeralds goalkeeper Siobhan Corcoran. All in camogie circles wish her a speedy recovery
