Thomastown V’s Slaughtneil (Derry), AIB All Ireland Senior Club Semi Final, Sunday 28th January – Inniskeen Grattans GAA Grounds, Monaghan
by PRO on the 26th of January 2018
Best of luck to Thomastown taking on Slaughtneil (Derry) this Sunday in Inniskeen Grattans GAA Grounds, Monaghan
Thomastown have had a very good season so far after doing back to back County Titles when they beat first time finalists, Dicksboro in this years County Final, 3-10 to 2-5. They over came a strong St Martins (Wexford) team in the Leinster Final in Carlow just before Christmas. St Martins been first time finalists made Thomastown work to regain their title. They played some lovely camogie and although Thomastown had gained a lead up St Martins brought it back but Thomastown’s experience of playing in the Final the previous year really showed and they pushed on for the victory. Thomastown want to try right the wrong of last years defeat to Sarsfields (Galway) in the All Ireland Semi Final where they were beaten by a single point. It certainly has been motivation for the players and management to try and get the victory under their belt and make it to the Club decider in Croke Park, it would be the first senior club to achieve this since St Lachtains back in 206 when they won the 3 in a row.
They’ll be up against it as Slaughtneil are reigning All-Ireland Champions having defeated Sarsfields of Galway in the Final. Slaughtneil defretaed Loughgeil in the Ulster Final which made it back to back wins for the small rural club in Derry who have achieved so much success already this year. It will be an interesting game and hopefully Thomastown can call on the experience of the County Senior girls to help them reach their goal.
