Intermediate team completes a good double for the Noresiders
by PRO on the 14th of April 2017
Kilkenny 2 – 11 Wexford 2 – 7
The Cats had to keep their wits about them to score a victory in this Littlewoods Ireland Camogie Division Two third round tie in Tom Ryall Park
On a bright, sunny afternoon with a strong wind blowing towards the country end, Kilkenny worked hard to get the better of Wexford
The visitors started brightly, scoring 2-1 through their full forward Aoife Sheil during the opening 10 minutes. It took Kilkenny until the 12th minute to register their first score. This was a goal from the industrious Mags Fennelly, following a good build up involving Margaurite Hoynes. Wexford replied with a long range point scored by Centre back, Niamh Walsh.
This was quickly followed with a pointed free by Aideen Brennan to leave the Model County leading by 2-3 to 1-0 at the end of the first quarter. Orla Hanrick (K) registered three points from placed balls to add a bit of zip to the Noresiders play
Christine Lyng (K) added a point from play to add momentum to the charge. On the stroke of half time, Wexford struck back with a point from a 45’ metre free by Aideen Brennan to leave the Model County ahead 2-4 to 1-4
On the resumption, Kilkenny fired over three points in quick succession. These were landed by Orla Hanrick (two frees) & Mia Griffin to help them draw level. During the following 15 minutes it was tit-for-tat with both sides firing over three points apiece. Then there was a lull in the scoring exchanges, but play moved from end to end frantically until the 55 minute when Mia Griffin (K) pointed. Three minutes later Niamh Bambrick (K) rounded three defenders before hand passing the ball into the net. This was the last score of the game and it wrapped up the League points for the Cats
Next up for the Intermediates is an away trip to Derry on Sunday 19th March
