Kilkenny 0-9 Wexford 2-11

In the Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League Division 1 Second Round tie last Sunday in Naomh Eanna GAA grounds in Gorey, Kilkenny’s 10 month unbeaten run came to an abrupt end in every inclement weather conditions as they were comprehensively defeated by Wexford

Michelle Quilty opened the scoring for the Noresiders from a 45 metre free after a minute, after Miriam Walsh’s shot was deflected over the endline by the Wexford goalkeeper. Two minutes later Wexford took the lead with Nicole Fortune kicking the sliotar to the net. Kilkenny scored the next four points without reply between the 5th & 17th minute, through Miriam Walsh (2) and Michelle Quilty (2), to lead 0-5 to 1-0. Wexford’s Linda Bolger steadied the ship with a brace of points in the 18th & 19th minute to level the match. Miriam Walsh then put Kilkenny ahead again in the 20th minute. But in the 23rd minute, Brid Gordon struck for a goal for the Model County to put them back in front. Anne Dalton pointed from a free in the 24th minute to cut the score to the minimum, but Linda Bolger scored the final two points of the half from placed balls to leave the score, Wexford 2-4 to Kilkenny 0-7

Wexford started off the second half with the strong wind in their backs & scored 4 points without reply between the 31st & 44th minute, through Shelly Kehoe and Linda Bolger (3f). Michelle Quilty however stopped the rout with the next two points to leave the score 0-9 (KK) to 2-8 (WX) on the 49th minute. Wexford added to their tally with three further points by Shelly Kehoe and Linda Bolger (2f), the latter being the last score of the match in the 53rd minute. Kilkenny tried as they might, for the last few minutes of the match to score, but the Wexford defence stood firm
