Leinster Intermediate Championship
Semi Final
Kilkenny vs Wexford (Saturday)
Venue: (Thomastown, 2.00pm) Referee: TBC
The Kilkenny Intermediate team will hope to book their place in the Leinster final in a few weeks time when they take on Wexford in Thomastown on Saturday. Kilkenny had a comprehensive win over Dublin last weekend and the management team will hope they continue this vein of form when they take on the Slaneysiders on Saturday. The most pleasing aspect of the performance against the Dubs was the performances of debutants Jenny Clifford and Sarah Walsh who scored 5-02 between them. Wexford will pose a more serious threat on Saturday then Dublin could muster. They operated in Division two of the league where they finished mid table with four points after recording wins over Laois and Antrim, but suffered some heavy losses to Galway, Westmeath and Kildare. As is commonly known league form doesn’t matter come championship and Wexford will be adamant to prove this on Saturday. They have some very talented players among their ranks and Kilkenny will have to be wary of Rachel Collier, Victoria Burke, and Ellen Kelly. In saying this I feel Kilkenny are a serious force this year and have the right mix of young and experienced players to make a serious impact later in the year and should have too much for Wexford and secure a Leinster final berth.
