Kilkenny Intermediates coast to opening round win over Dublin

Kilkenny Intermediate team ran out comfortable winners over Dublin in the 1st Round of the Glen Dimplex Intermediate All Ireland Championship in TU Dublin last Saturday when outscoring the home side 3-9 to 0-1 in the second half

Dublin started the game brightly and led by 4 points after six minutes, after Meabh Hicks scored a goal and Robyn Buckley converted a free over the bar

Caroline Kennedy got Kilkenny up and running on the scoring front with a fine point in the eight minute and five minutes later, Sarah Barcoe found the back of the net after some poor defensive play from Dublin

Afton Grace gave Kilkenny the lead for the first time with a lovely point from play. Grainne Skelton equalised for Dublin with a pointed free in the 19th minute

Afton Grace and Grainne Skelton swapped points as the first half drew to a close. Sarah Barcoe put Kilkenny ahead again with a point from play to leave the interval score 1-4 to 1-3 in favour of Kilkenny

On the resumption of play, Grace Skelton converted a 45m free for Dublin to equalise the match. This was Dublin’s last score of the game

Kilkenny then took complete control of the match, scoring 3-9 without reply

A point from play from Sarah Barcoe was sandwiched between two Afton Grace frees put Kilkenny three in front

Kilkenny then hit two quick goals from Afton Grace and Sarah Barcoe. Laura Greene added a point from play

A fourth goal was added by substitute Ellen Gunner before Afton Grace (f), Tara Ronan, Sarah Barcoe, Therese Donnelly and Laura Greene added points to win by eighteen points

Kilkenny play Cork in the 2nd Round of the Glen Dimplex Intermediate All Ireland Championship on Saturday 3rd June @ 5pm in John Locke Park, Callan
